This is funny, because I currently have a cold sore. (By my mouth, not my crotch!) And trust me, if you had one of THOSE on your genitals, you would not confuse it with jock itch. Nossir.
This is only the second cold sore I've had in my life, so i'm being a whiner. Most people get the virus as a child, but I managed to not catch it until I was 27 years old. That'll teach ME to make out with musicians!
