Hmm.
So I checked out some apartments this weekend. I’d whittled the list down to 3 properties, though one of them easily took the cake. During lunch break today I swung by that favored property to pick up an application and whatnot. But the clerk told me that there wouldn’t be any units available until two weeks after I need to move in. . . . Normally that would’ve meant, Okay, see ya next year! But the way she put it, “if you could wait that long.” Hmm. I mean, I’ve lived in awkward situations before so it’s not unconceivable, but how could I be “homeless” for two weeks? I like that apartment complex so I’m actually trying to figure out how that might be do-able.
When I had that job in Louisiana, I stayed in an ‘extended stay suite.’ That was nice, but it cost double what an apartment would. A two-week stay at one of those would amount to another month’s rent. And at this time of year, I’ve already got enough abnormal expenses (screw you Christmas!). When I first moved here to Austin, I (by accident) ended up staying at Motel 6 for a week with all of my belongings. That was cheaper than the extended stay suite, but I’ve got a lot more stuff this time around so I don’t know if that’d work. Or I could put my stuff in storage, but that’d just add more costs to this relocation and I’d still need to find somewhere to stay. Hmm. . . .
The reason I’m even contemplating jumping through these hoops is that I think if I got into this apartment complex, I might be comfortable enough to stay there for more than one year. I could just stay put for once. That’d be nice. The other two places I was considering, well, they’re no worse than where I’m living now but I doubt I’d want to stay.
Yeah, I talk like I’m going to make this happen somehow, but in the back of my head I’m thinking, “Give up. There’s too much that can go wrong with all of these options. Just suck it up and move into one of those other places. What’s another year anyways?”
*shrug* I dunno . . .
