I thought I got a lucky break, concerning the apartments. The day before I left town for the holidays I'd viewed a really nice apartment complex. Like, waaay too nice for me. I even drove past it twice while looking for it, thinking, "No, it can't be those apartments, those are too nice for the price." I went in, and man, it was a nice place. Wireless pool, gym facilities, gated, etc. And the apartment was brand spanking new. My first thought upon entering was, "Oh crap, I can't cosplay in here, I'll mess the place up." The apartment was a little pricier and a little smaller than where I've been living, but ALOT nicer/newer. So as I left town Saturday morning, I dropped off my application and deposit, all smiles and rainbows. Now I was going to have a nice place, where the cops didn't visit on a regular basis, a place I could invite people over to. Yay!
Then I get a call this morning from the apartment people, asking about my rental history in El Paso in '03. At first I was, "Huh?" That's ancient history, as far as I'm concerned. I'd only stayed in an apartment during my last semester there; I know I left town in a hurry, but I don't recall leaving things a mess. But apparently there's some red flag originating from that time. So tomorrow, while I'm driving my brother back up to Denton, I'll also have to try and troubleshoot this problem over the phone. It's gonna be such a headache. I hope whatever the problem is, it's not too expensive. What with Christmas presents, this trip down here, security deposits, application fees, etc, I don't have the funds to handle many more surprises.
I get the feeling this one little snafu is gonna screw me over and leave me scrambling to find somewhere else to live within the next three days. What really sucks is that I've already scheduled my utilities to be switched over, so if this falls through then I've gotta revoke my orders and they'll probably charge me for that. Ugh, what a pain in the butt this is.
