Quick weekend re-cap
Jul. 21st, 2008 10:27 pmBecause I'm lazy, but still feel compelled to post:
Saturday we went toobing on the Guadalupe with a few local friends. Some delays kept us from getting onto the river until mid-afternoon, but once we got in the water, all the frustrations and inconveniences disappeared. We chose the Guadalupe to avoid the tentacle-rape weeds that had plagued us in San Marcos. There were a helluva lot of other people toobing there; we bumped into other flotillas often. In my opinion, the rapids were the best part. The water would go a lot faster, but the downside was that it also got a lot shallower, meaning that your butt was vulnerable to attacks by the rocks. And trust me, alot of us got violated by the rocks. So the alcohol helped us to cope. The biggest lesson that I learned was that you don't realize you're drunk when you're floating along on your ass. The whole time I was thinking, "Eh, this is nothing," until we got to the end of the float and I actually had to stand on my own two feet. That's when I realized that I was a bit inebriated. Whoops.
After floating, we ate dinner and got dessert in Gruene, which was fun. The main tourist-y restaurant had an hour and a half wait so we went to an overflow restaurant. The food wasn't very good, but as hungry as I was, I was willing to eat anything.
So yeah, it was lots of fun and sun and bruises. I'll let the pictures do the talking.
