I was out in the field with the drillers all day and returned to the office shortly before quitting time, to find that my inbox had been swamped with information for this upcoming Canada job. At first I was excited to finally start getting some information, but then I became a bit stunned by all the stuff I have to do/get in the next week.
For starters I'll be heading 1700 miles north to Calgary, Alberta, (Canada) for a day of training. Then I'll be heading another 500 miles north to Fort McMurray, for a week of training. THEN I go another 100 miles north to the actual job site. IT'S WAY THE HELL UP THERE.
This should give you some perspective. )

To get ready for this job, the Project Manager sent me a list of minimum equipment that I should start getting together. Check it:

Level II Flame-Retardant Winter Nomex Coveralls
2 sets of the wicking layer (long underwear),
1 sets of the middle layer (fleece pants/jacket),
2 face wraps (balaclavas),
2 pair of inner gloves (liners),
1 pair of outer gloves (water/windproof),
Class III life vest, and
steel-toe boots (rated to -100ยบ) <---WTF, seriously!!!!.

Holy crap. Where am I supposed to get all this stuff?!? This is Texas! I went to Academy last week and they've already started putting out their spring stuff (shorts and short-sleeves). I might stand a better chance of sewing my own arctic wear. Because I sure as hell don't have the money to go to REI and buy that la-di-da fancy outdoor gear.
On top of the gear I have to gather, I've also got to find a way to get in this list of training within the next week.

Haz-Mat training,
Hydrogen Sulfide Gas training,
First Aid,
CPR,
Drug & Alcohol screening,
download Rosetta Stone for Canadian, and
I've got to get my papers prepared for the "Canadian Border Security Agency" to make sure I'm not taking away any jobs from Canadians. Apparently they're concerned I'll try to sneak in under a work visa and never return to the US. Ha ha. As if!
Man oh man, I've got so much crap to do.
