This past week was quite busy. It wasn't easy, dragging myself to work this week; Thursday and Friday I didn't go in at all. Friday I finished up my kigurumi just in time for the New Year's Eve celebrations. I wasn't too pleased with the final result. I'd give my kigurumi a "C".
The first event of the evening was the Explosionorama at Josh's place. Actually, I'm not sure whose place it was. There was a family and some strangers unknown to me which made it difficult to gauge how loud/rambunctious/stupid we could be. I got a little lost on the drive there, which meant that I missed the opening act, the sparkler birthday cake/vehicle fire. It must've been quite the spectacle, considering that the police department got involved. I wish I'd seen it. That probably explained why everyone was so wary and gunshy by the time I got there; Jenny had fled outright.
It was fun to hang out with the ex-patriates that I hadn't seen in months. Between the thunderous explosions we talked about cosplay, like usual. And Josh had one helluva stockpile. Literally hundreds of pounds of gray-market Chinese boom-boom. More than enough to satisfy a small town's needs. Even though everyone was now being extra-careful, eventually there was another pyrotechnic mishap and a neighbor's lawn caught on fire. That was the last nail in the coffin. Josh shut down the show rather than risk another visit from the cops. He gave away the rest of his explosives. I didn't want to profit from his misfortune, but let's just say I'm now the proud foster-father of 200+ lbs of fireworks.
We re-convened at Jenny's house for the pajama-themed party. I gotta admit, the girls were right about how comfy and warm those kigurumi are. If only I'd put a fly in mine, it would've been the perfect garment. We all drank and made merry. My memory's fuzzy, but I'm not sure we did our New Year's count-down actually at midnight. Either way, we made it to 2011.
I woke up about 9 am, still in my kigurumi/sleeping bag. Apparently Pai and I slept together. I checked out of Hotel Tibbington and headed back to my place. I spent the rest of the day cosplay-cramming on my Adventure Time costume. I dunno why I was so intent on making a costume for Ikki-con (a convention I hadn't even planned on attending). Making a whole costume in just one day?!? That goes against everything I believe! Maybe I'd just caught fleece-fever from making the kigurumi or maybe I had a whole lot of pent-up cosplay mojo. I worked on the costume all day, not even stopping for food; I kept telling myself I'd eat after it was done. I didn't finish the costume till that evening, which kinda sucked. By the time I got to the con, it was already dark and most of the cosplayers had gone to dinner or various room-parties. I'd missed out on most the photo-worthy stuff. Boo. At least my costume was fairly popular with the con crowd. I did get to hang out with my pals for awhile and catch up on the latest news with everybody. It's so rare that I get to spend time with these people. Soon though, my stomach reminded me that I hadn't eaten all day. Even though I was in shorts and it was 44 degrees outside, I could no longer postpone dinner. I walked to 6th street to get some food. There was a lot of, "What the hell is that?" and, ". . . the fuck?" One drunk even punched my backpack, calling me a Power Ranger. WTF man? That pissed me off a bit. This is Austin. If you can't handle seeing some weird stuff, then you're in the wrong town. On the way back to the hotel, I crossed paths with a large group of revelers at a crosswalk. They had nothing to do with Ikki-con, but they lost their shit when they saw me. Algebraic-this and mathematical-that; it was cool to get such a response from totally random strangers.
I had so much fun in both the kigurumi and Finn, I wish I had more upcoming opportunities to wear those costumes. We'll see.

I've spent today cleaning my house, clearing out the mess left behind by Christmas and cosplay. And getting ready to head out to West Texas tomorrow. I'd like to stay in town. I seem to be so much more productive when I'm here at home. But oh well. I had a great week of fun so I don't mind so much. I think the next weekend I'm back in town I'll head up to Dallas to get fabric for my next cosplay and also to enlist my brother's help in exploding the small mountain of fireworks in my living room.

I'm too lazy to upload all my photos just yet, but here's one from New Year's Eve. There was a lot of pink there, apparently.
