Hmmm . . .
Feb. 18th, 2008 11:47 amI was thinking about the next phase for our Pucca and Garu costumes, specifically A-kon. I can’t decide whether we should do a walk-on or a full-blown skit. I really like the simple yet funny skit I came up with, but that would require the help of handlers, preferably two. Since we’re blind in those costumes, I think the only way to do a skit would be to have the handlers stay off-stage and direct Pucca and Garu’s movements with the walkie-talkies we installed in the heads. I don’t think that would be too difficult to pull off but we’d need two reliable handlers and those are hard to come by. We’d also need to practice for an hour or two at the con to “train” Pucca and Garu and then the handlers would have to wait with us in the cosplay contest line the whole time. All that work for probably no recognition; I doubt anyone would want to sacrifice that much of their con-time. That’s the problem with these costumes though, they really need an assistant. Even just wearing them on the con floor for pictures, like at Ikki-con. We REALLY needed a handler there. Someone who could tell us when we needed to pose for the cameras, when we could take a break, when our costumes were malfunctioning, maybe grab us a water, etc. I could try asking my brother and his girlfriend to help as they did with my GIR at A-kon, but they may not even be going to that con.
I wish these costumes weren’t so dependent on other people to really reach their full potential, but they are. Even if I degraded the costumes by cutting eye-holes in them, that wouldn’t make them fully self-sufficient. I guess I should be more realistic and just plan on doing the walk-on instead. If that goes good enough, then we could think about doing a skit later in the year. Hmph. But even a walk-on would require some sort of help, unless we wanted to fall off the edge of the stage or run into each other by accident. I dunno, maybe both ideas are impractical.
