I took a long-ass lunch today to run down and see hear some music at SXSW. My plan had originally been to leave the office for the day at 10 am, but work multiplied like wet gremlins and lunch was all I could manage. To help me enjoy myself, I pre-intoxicated myself on the way there. Once I got there, I discovered there was FREE BEER! Suffice to say, I didn't actually eat lunch. But hell, calories are calories, amirite?
I could only watch one set, but it was awesome. Rocked my boxers off. I am so coming back for the real Japan Nite tomorrow night. Those dudes rocked. And I was glad to see not one single weaboo or Narutard in the whole crowd. Awesome. And I did meet one cute rock babe there. )

Anyways, that's all I stopped by to say! I'm on my way back to catch some more fun. Tonight's South American music; I know nothing about it other than it sounded awesome online.

Woo! Last night was fun. I had to work all day, but managed to get out in time to go down to Japan Night part 2. When Star, JB, and I got to Elysium, the line was non-existent so we explored the 6th St. area for a while and got some food.
The whole reason we went to Elysium was to see the Pillows, of course. But they weren't going on until 1 am. We had some time to wait and had some drinks and chit-chatted. Each hour, another Japanese band would play and the crowd grew bigger and bigger as the night wore on and you could tell alot of people were there for one band in particular (but no FLCL cosplay though, what the hell?). Which isn't to say the other bands weren't worth mentioning. In fact, a couple of them rocked out bigtime. Star liked Damage the best, I thought The Emeralds rocked hardest. Thank goodness the Emeralds went on just before the Pillows, because I needed some high-energy music to get me amped up again. We lost sight of JB just before the Pillows' performance and considering how small and bunny-like she is, I momentarily worried that she might've been abducted. But the search party could wait until after the Pillows.
To put it simply, they ROCKED. I know they're probably tired to death of playing the same FLCL songs, but they gave the crowd what we wanted and we went apeshit. I felt my own nerdgasm growing with each song and it was hard not to wig out like a few other otaku in the crowd. Ah, it was so damned cool. I'm glad we went; I've gotta go back next year.

Like hell I was gonna waste the whole night filming the concerts, but I thought I'd save you guys a little taste.

P.S. JB did not get abducted.

As any Austinite knows, South by SouthWest is back this weekend. Last year I/we went to Japan Nite and it was fun so I'm thinking I want to do it again. I don't know any of these bands in this line-up, but it's an excuse to get together, hang out, and admit that we may be weaboos. Anybody wanna go?

Big thanks to JB, the mistress of ceremonies, for putting together a last-minute group to attend SxSW's Japan Night. We didn't actually get to see those bands perform because the line was hella long and stuff. But that was alright, instead we cruised the area, sampling the tunes floating out of the bars and witnessing the random weirdness that is "downtown after dark." Among those sights was a hobo-fight, fat afro man, and the freaky-weird Japanese girl trio playing barefoot in the street.
Oddly enough, I ran into Boss #0 while I was there. I had my suspicions that he was a cool guy, but not to this degree. He asked, "Are you going to be at work early tomorrow?" I laughed and replied, "We'll see!"
After a bit of strolling, we went for dinner (?) at Magnolia's and hung out there. It was fun to hang out with the guys without it being about cosplay for once.
And tomorrow we get to do it all over again, but this time with booze! Will I survive?

Stay tuned!
